FAQs

Q1: Why must the discharge temperature of oxygen compressors be strictly controlled?

Controlling discharge temperature is a key measure for preventing fire and explosion accidents. During the compression process, the cylinder is filled with high-pressure, high-purity oxygen (a combustion-supporting agent); if combustible materials and ignition temperatures are simultaneously present, a fire or explosion may occur.

  • Process control parameters: When using PTFE-filled sealing structures, the discharge temperature should be kept below 160°C, and the cylinder wall temperature is ideally maintained at 110°C.
  • Implementation method: Our equipment employs inter-stage coolers to forcibly cool the high-temperature gas after each compression stage and utilizes optimized compression ratios for each stage to control temperature rise at the source.

Q2: What precautions should be taken when maintaining oxygen compressors?

Maintenance is a stage where fire and explosion accidents frequently occur; the following protocols must be strictly observed:

  • Strict degreasing: All disassembled parts intended for reinstallation (especially the cylinder, piston, valves, and piping that come into contact with oxygen) must be cleaned and dried using specialized degreasing solvents, such as carbon tetrachloride, before assembly.
  • Strict prohibition of oil contamination: Maintenance personnel must not have grease on their hands, and touching compression-related components with oily hands is strictly prohibited.
  • Clearance adjustment: When replacing PTFE piston rings, a larger expansion clearance must be allowed compared to metal rings to prevent seizing due to thermal expansion; additionally, ensure the clearance volume is appropriate to avoid affecting discharge pressure.
  • Seal and filter inspection: Check that the piston rod oil scraper ring is functioning effectively and that the filter upstream of the cylinder is intact.

Q3: What preparations are required before starting the oxygen compressor?

A thorough pre-start inspection serves as the first line of defense for safe operation; the following items must be verified one by one:

  • Degreasing and cleanliness check: Confirm that all piping, valves, and cylinders in contact with oxygen have passed degreasing inspection; no residual grease is permitted.
  • Cooling system check: Verify that the cooling water flow (or air-cooling fins) is unobstructed and that water pressure and temperature meet equipment specifications (generally, inlet water temperature ≤ 32°C).
  • Lubrication system check (for models with oil lubrication): Check that the crankcase oil level is within the normal range and the oil is clean.
  • Gas valve status: Ensure the intake, discharge, and bypass valves are in the correct open/closed positions (startup is typically performed under no-load conditions).
  • Instruments and safety devices: Check that pressure gauges and thermometers for each stage are zeroed or reading normally; verify that safety valves and pressure controllers are responsive and reliable.
  • Manual rotation check: Manually rotate the shaft a few turns to confirm there is no binding or abnormal noise.
  • Purging: For newly installed or serviced units, purge the system with nitrogen or oil-free dry air; formal gas intake may only begin once the outlet oxygen purity meets specifications.

Q4: What precautions should be taken when shutting down an oxygen compressor?

Shutdown procedures must also be executed correctly to prevent accidents and extend equipment service life:

  • Unload before stopping: Open the bypass or vent valve to allow the compressor to run under no-load conditions for 1–2 minutes before cutting off power to the motor. Shutting down directly while under load is strictly prohibited.
  • Post-shutdown cooling: Maintain cooling water circulation for a period (approximately 15–30 minutes) after shutdown; turn off the water supply only after the cylinder temperature has dropped to ambient levels to prevent localized overheating and carbon buildup.
  • Close gas source valves: Shut off the main intake and discharge valves to prevent backflow or leakage of high-pressure gas.
  • Long-term shutdown maintenance: If the unit is to be shut down for an extended period, apply anti-rust treatment and rotate the shaft periodically (at least once a month) to prevent seals from sticking or corroding.
