The development of diaphragm compressors began in 1916, with the world's first diaphragm compressor built by French engineer Henri Corblin. In the 1960s, Beijing No. 1 General Machinery Plant manufactured my country's first diaphragm compressor.

Major players in the industry include overseas companies such as Howden (UK), PDC (USA), and Mehrer (Germany), as well as domestic companies such as Beijing Jingcheng Machinery, Zhongding Hengsheng, Hengjiu Machinery, Foshan Gas & Electric Machinery, Jinkaiwei, Xinran, and Yigong Hydrogen Energy. China has introduced a series of energy-saving and energy efficiency standards and policies, creating a favorable environment for the industry's green development. The industry standard "Diaphragm Hydrogen Compressors for Hydrogen Refueling Stations" (JB/T 14965-2025) came into effect on November 1, 2025. In the future, diaphragm compressor technology will develop towards higher efficiency, intelligence (integrating IoT and AI algorithms for condition monitoring and remote operation and maintenance), modularity, and customization, and will break through to higher pressures (such as above 100MPa) and larger flow rates.
